Wisdom Takes Work
In my early 20s, I was incapable of feeling genuinely relaxed in my body, unable to find true peace of mind, and didn’t know my life’s purpose. However, I did have a few clues as to the cause of my restless discontent.
I knew my thoughts had something to do with not feeling good enough…along with several other not-enoughs, like being pretty, thin, lovable, or smart enough. I also experienced a quiet, reverent place within that used to be easily accessible as a child but was missing in action.

Like any good detective, I was hell-bent on following the clues to experience more of the quiet, reverent place within, and more importantly, a reprieve from my punishing and overactive mind.

So what do we all need to do to become masters of our thoughts and behaviors, not their dutiful puppets? The key is to gain knowledge of how to be more peaceful and mindful, but always remember, PRACTICE is the key.

Try these three things (One at a time is fine until you feel ready to add another)-

Stay present and focus on what you can control and let the rest go. You can’t control things like what other people do or your past. By becoming self-aware of your behaviors and reactions to situations, you can then control your responses.

Choose yourself.  Watch your energy and feelings in your body as you interact with people and situations. Does your energy feel weighed down by the interaction, or do you feel energized? If the answer is energized, do more of that. Hang out with people who light you up, value you, and engage in situations that are in harmony with your soulful self.

Make life’s chores a ritual. When you perform repeatable tasks, it’s a great time to practice mindfulness and enter the present moment. When you’re exercising, brushing your teeth, or doing dishes, bring your attention fully to the task at hand.

As you cultivate mindfulness and practice watching your thoughts and reactions to daily life situations, be sure to have an abundance of self-compassion and give yourself grace. Foremost, remember…there is no right or wrong way to embody your creative, soulful self. Practice is all that is required…and magically, insight and wisdom follows.

Big love to all of you.

1  Practice to Tune into Your Body
Our bodies were built to move. It helps our mental and physical health. Make movement a priority.

2 Shifts to Observe the Mind…with curiosity and an open heart.
Deliberately give your full attention to one task, even if it’s for a short period of time.
Deliberately resist distractions, such as not checking your phone when you feel the urge to do so. It builds discipline and focus.

3 Quotes and a Question to Awaken the Soul
“You have power over your mind, not outside events. Realize this, and you will find strength.” – Seneca
“Man is not worried by real problems so much as by his imagined anxieties about real problems.” – Epictetus
“The things you think about determine the quality of your mind. Your soul takes on the color of your thoughts.” – Marcus Aurelius

And drumroll…the Question
Are you moving closer to the life you want, or are you further away? Adjust accordingly.
