Observing What’s Not Fun Holds Freeing Info My book was being typeset and scheduled to be launched in about a month, and I still didn’t have an introduction. Little did I know that inspiration would hit me one night at a concert. Upon entering the concert hall, one of the two t-shirts in the merch area said nothing but, This Isn’t Fun Anymore. I thought, what could that mean? There is more to the story, but This Isn’t Fun Anymore is the name of my introduction. Why? How often do we say this isn’t fun anymore on the Ferris wheel of life? What do we do that makes us feel that way? Maybe we had one too many drinks the night before and lost the next day to a hangover. Possibly, we started a diet and promised ourselves we’d eat well, only to disappoint our hopeful spirit and give up a week later. When we do things that disappoint ourselves, we usually end up berating our actions and don’t feel good about ourselves. It’s a vicious, self-defeating and energy-draining cycle. Here is a way to stop that cycle in a word…observe. When we observe our actions without judgment and simply experience how they affect us, we begin to change our behavior. Why? By feeling how something lands in our body, we get out of our thinking, judging mind. We gain distance from our thoughts, and in that distance, that spaciousness, we gain insight. Ultimately, this process of observation and reflection empowers us to take control of our lives. It encourages us to make conscious choices that lead to greater satisfaction and joy. By letting go of what no longer serves us, we create space for new passions and pursuits that can enhance our overall well-being. In this way, reflecting on what’s not fun anymore becomes a transformative journey of self-discovery and empowerment, guiding us toward a life that’s more aligned with our authentic selves. And, before you know it, you’ll be gentler with yourself and doing what’s fun and bringing you happiness!!! 1 Practice to Tune into Your Body If something isn’t fun anymore, check in with your body and observe where you are holding tension. Breath into the tension, visualizing it releasing. 2 Shifts to Observe the Mind…with curiosity and an open heart When something isn’t fun, ask yourself…”What small step can I take today to move closer to what truly excites me?” When you observe yourself doing something that doesn’t make you happy, ask yourself…”What would make me feel energized instead of drained?” 3 Quotes and a Question to Awaken the Soul “Being observant is a must-have skill to master.” – Robin S. Baker “The highest form of human intelligence is to observe yourself without judgment.” – Krishnamorti “Self-reflection is a humbling process. It’s essential to find out why you think, say, and do certain things.” – Sonya Teclai And drumroll…the Question Can you get curious and, without judgment, observe your thoughts, beliefs, and behaviors?
